Popular salads recalled for listeria scare

DENVER — Reser’s Fine Foods of Beaverton, Ore., is recalling 19 salad items that might have been sold in Colorado.

A supplier of onions notified Reser’s of possible listeria contamination. The onions might be in the following products — listed by the item’s UPC, title, size and use by date:

Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Some symptoms are high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled salads were distributed to retailers in several states and British Columbia.

No illnesses have been reported to date.
