DENVER — Whether you are renewing or enrolling for the first time, health insurance open enrollment is beginning on Sunday.
Nearly 20,000 in Denver County enrolled during last year’s open enrollment and Connect for Health Colorado is making the process even easier.
“If you do not have health insurance the penalty for not signing up is increasing to $695 or more depending on your income,” Ezra Watlane of Enroll America said.
We all need health insurance, and Coloradans seem to be on the right track.
“In the past two years Colorado uninsured has decreased by about half according to some studies,” Watlane said. “So it’s been a tremendous success.”
This year, there are 188 plans to choose from, and in-person assistance if you need help.
“If you have questions at any point during the process there are free local in-person assisters that can guide you from start to finish through the process,” Watlane said.
During the three month enrollment period, from Nov. 1 through Jan. 31, 18 walk-in centers will be available around the state.
“This is your opportunity to view the new plans and prices that are available in Colorado and make sure that you are finding one that makes the most sense for you family’s needs and budget,” Watlane said.
And for more than 80,000 members who were affected by Colorado HealthOp’s recent shut down, help is on the way.
“Certainly it’s sad to lose Colorado HealthOp from the Colorado market place. It’s really important for enrollees of Colorado HealthOp to know that their coverage remains in place through the end of the year,” Watlane said. “It’s also important for them to know that they will need to take action to find a new plan that meets their family’s needs and budget.”
