DENVER –Dressed completely in pink including their wigs, they came to be with others on the same long journey through cancer.

As they walked out onto Mile High Stadium turf to rehearse for the halftime show.

That’s because cancer survivor Yvette Engel and her best friend Jennifer Reid came through her cancer together.

“The hardest part is when you first receive your news it doesn’t sink in,” Yvette said.

Many of the 125 survivors taking part told us there’s no “playbook” for surviving cancer.

They were all at Sunday’s Broncos game to take part in a Salute to Survivors, with the first annual “Fight Like a Bronco” tribute.

“A lot of it is positive mind and your support group,” said Jennifer Reid.  “Making sure that she doesn’t stay negative for too long and really like going to embrace this. Your life’s going to change from this moment on and you’ll see everything differently.”

Yvette says her fight was made easier by specialists at UCHealth Memorial in Colorado Springs.

“I felt like they were in control they were taking care of me, ”  Yvette said.

She calls her “playbook” a three round bout with chemotherapy in round one.

“My friend here Jennifer made every chemo visit fun. ”

Surgery came in round two, and radiation therapy made round three.

Yvette has no family history of breast cancer, so she almost didn’t show up when her doctor wanted a second screening.

“If we can touch one person and make them go get a mammogram,” Yvette said as she hugged Jennifer, “That’s our goal one person.”

After halftime rehearsal Broncos brought them up to Club Level for a champaign brunch.

They say you may be alone when you’re diagnosed with cancer, but it’s also a time you learn how many people care about you.
