DENVER — The National Cancer Institute estimates that more than 40 percent of Americans will be diagnosed with some type of cancer in their lifetime. In Colorado, one young man is tackling the fight against the disease head on — and he’s asking for your help.
Connor LeFebre, a sixth-grader from Littleton, is organizing a walk-a-thon, called “Run Cancer Out of Town,” to help raise money for the American Cancer Society.
The fight against cancer is personal for Connor. His mother, Dawn, was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in 2013.
“I want my mom to be completely healed,” said Connor. “I don’t want her to be sick any more.”
Despite several rounds of chemotherapy, Dawn is still fighting the disease. Though small cell lung cancer typically only affects smokers, Dawn has never smoked before.
Run Cancer Out of Town will be held Sunday, April 19th at Valor High School.
