PARKER, Colo. — At the Baldwin house in Parker, the kids are encouraged to keep their shoes on. The floors are bare, with only the subfloor exposed, after the family ripped out the carpet for new hardwood floors.

“This isn’t ideal,” Jerimiah Baldwin said.

For the past two months, Baldwin has been trying to get Michael Horton Jr. to complete the work he was hired to do. Horton, who owns several hardwood flooring companies, is under investigation by the Colorado Attorney General after 48 complaints were filed with the Better Business Bureau of Denver.

Horton’s companies include Arvada Hardwood Flooring, 303 Custom Hardwood, 5280 Custom Hardwoods and Interstate Hardwood. According to court records, several customers have filed suit against him for unfinished work.

Baldwin said Horton took nearly $2,700 of his money as a deposit for the materials in April and he hasn’t seen or heard from him since.

“I’ve spent 100 hours trying to track him down,” Baldwin said.

In his research, he found more victims who also claim Horton never did the work he was paid to do.

Horton uses Craigslist as his main form of advertisement. FOX31 Denver attempted to call Horton and left a message, but he never returned calls.
