FREDERICK, Colo. — The lives of Shanann Watts and her two daughters were remembered at their memorial service Saturday in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

The woman and her two young girls from Frederick were killed last month.

In a traditional Catholic ceremony, the lives of the victims were honored.  Shanann’s unborn son, Nico, was celebrated as well.

“Shanann was a woman of love, she loved God, she loved her family, and she loved her friends,” the priest said. “Shanann was a woman of determination. Sandra, her mother describes her as a fireball. She had dreams to be fulfilled and she worked towards those dreams.

“Bella Marie also called Bell or B, and Celeste Katherine, Cece, were light for all around them especially for their Pop Pop, Nona, and Uncle Frankie. They were filled with life joy and shared it with those they encountered.

There was no talk of the details surrounding the loss of life at the funeral, but in Colorado, people in Frederick still can’t come to grips with it all.

“I wanted to participate in this to express my feelings and express my condolences for the family,” Jimmy Romero said.

One couple walked up to the family home for a second time on Saturday. They hung four balloons on the porch.

“There was four human beings here, that’s way I look at it,” Romero said.

One balloon for Shanann, one each for the two little girls, and the last one for Nico.

“Just for respect, just for respect,” Beverly Lewis said.

The suspect is husband and father, Christopher Watts. He was arrested and has been charged with murder.

“The family would like to see good come from this tragedy,” the priest said. “They do not desire vengeance and death but justice and life.”

Action is also coming. At the funeral, the priest touched on how the family would like to see a law passed to recognize unborn children.

They also want to collect money to help search for missing children, and they want to raise money for lupus, the disease Shanann was diagnosed with.

Watts’ body was recovered in a shallow grave near an oil tank on property owned by Anadarko Petroleum, where Christopher Watts worked as an operator.

Officials said they found the bodies of the girls, 4-year-old Bella and 3-year-old Celeste, in an oil well in near their mother’s body.

Shanann Watts was 15 weeks pregnant with a boy when she was strangled to death, police said.
