COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The officer killed in the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood shooting was remembered at a funeral service Friday.

Garrett Swasey was one of three victims killed on Nov. 27 and his funeral was held at New Life Church in Colorado Springs.

Hundreds, including community members and uniformed officers, were in attendance.

Rachel Swasey, the wife of the late officer, said at the service, “I have been more overwhelmed this week by love than by sadness.”

Swasey was among the first to respond to the Black Friday shooting at Planned Parenthood. Along with his wife, he leaves behind two children, 6-year-old Faith and Elijah, who just turned 11 this week.

Support for Swasey’s family has been pouring in from across the country. Close to $200,000 has been raised for the family.

The procession Friday for Swasey stretched through Colorado Springs as the community and fellow members of law enforcement paid their respects.

Those who knew him say Swasey loved his job; he loved helping people. They say they’ll miss his warm smile and gentle spirit the most.

He was a University of Colorado at Colorado Springs police officer for six years. A university scholarship in his memory will be established.
