DENVER — A 3-year-old boy who was hit while crossing the street with his mom and sister Friday did not survive his injuries.
The accident happened on South University Boulevard at East Ohio Avenue, right outside the popular Bonnie Brae Ice Cream store. The elderly woman driving the car remained at the scene. The police investigation was still underway Monday.
Austin Strasser’s family and friends want him to be remembered for the way he lived and not the way he died.
They say he was a sweet child, kind and full of life. In just one week, he would’ve turned 4.
“It’s the worst thing ever. I don’t have words to describe it,” family friend Connie Hamman said. “It doesn’t feel real.”
Austin’s older sister, Audrey, has special needs. Connie said that in many ways, the little boy was her guardian. Audrey and her mom were with Austin crossing the street when the car hit them. They were not hurt.
A service for Austin is scheduled Saturday.
