ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Law enforcement and first responders turned out by the hundreds on Monday morning to pay their final respects to a  Colorado state trooper who was fatally hit by a suspected drunk driver.

A 10-mile procession down Highway 285 and Hampen Avenue was held for Trooper Jaimie Jursevics, who was hit and killed along Interstate 25 south of Castle Rock on Nov. 15.

She was investigating an accident when she was struck by retired Army Col. Eric Henderson, who is suspected to have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Friday, the Ralston Valley High School football team wore stickers on their helmets with Jursevics’ initials in her honor during a playoff game against Valor Christian High School.

“We lost a wonderful person who will always be with us,” Sgt. Rob Madden said.

The procession went from the Schaefer Athletic Complex (9750 W. Hampden Ave.) to the Denver First Church of the Nazarene (3501 S. Colorado Blvd.), where a celebration of life service was held.

Jursevics is survived by her husband an an 8-month-old daughter.
