HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday night that a suspect was under arrest in connection with the hit-and-run of a woman jogging on University Boulevard on Tuesday morning.
Sheriff Tony Spurlock said Markus Lide, 32, of Highlands Ranch was arrested about 6:30 p.m. Spurlock said the arrest was made after negotiations that began when Lide’s attorney contacted investigators earlier in the day. The sheriff said charges against the suspect were still being prepared.
Spurlock also said Lide’s red 2010 Infiniti was in possession of investigators. They were waiting on a search warrant to examine the vehicle.
Tina Benner was running on University near South Crossland Way in Highlands Ranch when the car hit her at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. She was training for next month’s Denver Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon.
Benner’s friends said a girl walking to school found Benner injured, lying in a ditch. Spurlock said Benner was in a hospital in critical condition Wednesday night. He said she has a long road of recovery ahead of her.
Spurlock thanked the public for the leads that were provided to investigators after the hit-and-run.
