BOULDER, Colo. — The body of a 22-year-old man was found by two hikers below a rock formation known as the Fifth Pinnacle near Flagstaff Mountain on Sunday morning, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were called to the Gregory Canyon trailhead after the body was found. Deputies believe the man fell the previous day.

The sheriff’s office said the man was climbing without protective equipment and fell nearly 100 feet.

The man told a friend Saturday he was going to the mountain park to climb. When he didn’t return he was reported missing Sunday morning. The physical description of the victim appears to match that of the missing man, the sheriff’s office said.

The man’s identity might be released after confirmation from the Boulder County Coroner’s Office and notification of family.
