Denver survivor of Boston Marathon terrorist attack satisfied with death sentence for bomber

Boston Marathon bombing

DENVER — A woman who witnessed the second explosion just minutes after crossing the Boston Marathon finish line in 2013 is sharing her reaction to the decision by a jury to sentence the bomber to death.

“As I looked back, I saw the second bomb go off, and there was no question in my mind it was bombs,” said Christine Bliven, a Denver-based runner who was in Boston for the 2013 marathon and survived the terrorist attack.

“They told us turn around, don’t look, keep walking,” added Bliven when asked to describe the moments after the blasts ripped through downtown Boston.

Several Colorado runners were in Boston for the race and several told FOX31 Denver about the experiences they had after the horrific attacks. When asked about the decision to execute Djokhar Tsarnev, Bliven expressed her support for the decision.

“I thought good, I thought it was appropriate,” added Bliven, while displaying her medal from the 2013 race.

Other survivors expressed their support for the jury’s decision during a media conference outside the Federal courthouse.
