DENVER — A gunman was shot late Sunday night after he made several verbal threats and pointed a gun in a threatening manner at officers from a balcony in downtown, the Denver Police Department said.

It happened about 9:20 p.m. near 20th and Arapahoe streets after police responded to a report of a suspect making anti-police threats. Police said the man had a gun and was pointing it at people.

When officers arrived, police said the shooter, a man in his late 50s, raised and pointed a gun in a threatening manner. On Sunday, police said the man shot at officers, but on Monday, they said that didn’t happen.

On Monday, police said the man used a BB gun with the barrel cut off to make it look like a sawed-off shotgun. Police opened fire and struck the suspect in the arm. He was taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

No officers were injured. The shooter has not been identified and no motive for the threats has been revealed.
