DENVER — Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle that hit and killed a bicyclist Thursday night and then fled the scene.
A man was pushing bicycle with another man along South Federal Boulevard at Walsh Place when he was struck.
The twisted remains of the bike were left in the middle of the street.
Police say the man was not riding the bike at the time of the accident but he tried to cross Federal with it and was not in a crosswalk. Witnesses say an SUV came barreling down Federal and plowed into the man.
“It was a head-on collision,” witness Jay Mason said. “I knew immediately that it was unsurvivable, the sound, the speed. ”
Federal was closed between West Ohio Avenue and Walsh during the investigation.
Officers did not have a description of the hit-and-run vehicle.
