Northfield High School principal resigns after investigation

Northfield High School in Denver

DENVER — The principal of Northfield High School resigned after an investigation into allegations of inappropriate use of force at the school, Denver Public Schools announced Tuesday.

The school opened in August but it quickly ran into Controversy after several complaints from parents. It was the first time Avi Tropper had been a principal.

Tropper was placed on paid administrative leave earlier this month after several families filed complaints about the way students were being disciplined at the school. Some parents also complained about a lack of attention to sports and the athletic program, prompting a district investigation.

In a news release, DPS Superintendent Tom Boasberg said: “We support the vision of Northfield High School as an inclusive, diverse school that will provide an excellent education for all students,” said Superintendent Tom Boasberg. “We also appreciate the efforts of the extraordinary educators at Northfield and how many wonderful things are happening at the school every day. At the same time, this change is necessary for Northfield to achieve the vision that we and the community share for the school.”

An interim principal is expected to be named shortly.
