Denver man poised to climb all Colorado’s 14ers in 10 days

Andrew Hamilton

ESTES PARK, Colo. — A Denver man is attempting to break a world record by climbing all of Colorado’s 14,000 foot peaks in 10 days.

Transitioning from Wednesday evening into Thursday morning, Andrew Hamilton was on the last leg of his journey.

Hamilton used to hold the record, but in 2011, Ted Kaiser swiped it from him. So on June 29 at 4:30 a.m., Hamilton set out to take it back.

Depending on who you ask, there are anywhere from 52 to 58 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado. As of Wednesday evening, Hamilton was attempting his 58th and final peak: Longs Peak.

“I’ll tell you … it’s just incredible to watch the spirit and how hard he’s working. He’s moving really well,” said Jon Kedrowski, one of Colorado’s more well-known mountaineers.

Throughout the trip, Hamilton has been assisted by a team of friends and supporters. They’ve driven him to each peak, helped him maintain good health and also kept his spirits high.

If Hamilton completes Longs Peak by 4:30 a.m. Thursday, he will reach his goal of 10 days.

Even if he doesn’t, he still has a good chance of taking his title back.

FOX31 Denver learned Kaiser was on his way to Colorado from the East Coast on Wednesday to congratulate Hamilton at the end of his journey.
