CrossFit instructor injured by truck in hit-and-run still recovering

DENVER — A popular CrossFit instructor who was hit by a truck while riding his motorcycle continues to a recover at Denver a hospital with serious injuries.

Earlier this month, Shane Upchurch, 32, was involved in a hit-and-run crash on Colorado 119 and 63rd Street in Boulder County.  The driver of the box truck has not been located or identified by police.

“He’s making progress everyday, but progress can be big or small,” said Arielle Upchurch, Shane’s wife.  “If he hadn’t been wearing his gear, the doctors say he would’ve died.”

Upchurch, a CrossFit instructor at CrossFit Roots in Boulder, has serious injuries to his leg and head.  He also has broken ribs, a punctured lung and a dislocated shoulder.

“I’m just focusing on the good things that are happening,” Upchurch said. “The fact that he knows who I am is huge. That would’ve been pretty shocking and hard to deal with if he didn’t.”

More than 300 people have donated nearly $56,000 on Upchurch’s Go Fund Me page.
