DENVER (KDVR) — Concerns with the uptick in positive COVID-19 cases and the importance of maintaining the progress the city has achieved were main topics of Denver Mayor Michael Hancock’s news conference on Friday.

“We can not amplify enough that this is the time for us not to lose the momentum that we all fought and sacrificed so hard to gain and to make sure that we maintain control of our battle with COVID-19,” Hancock stressed during the conference.

Denver’s mayor said there has been a rise in positivity rates for COVID-19, going from 3% to 4.5%. Hospitalization numbers have remained the same.

Hancock said the best tool we have to combat transmission of COVID-19 in our community is to cover up, mask up and demonstrate care for those around you.

Agreeing with the “don’t gather in large groups” message from Governor Polis, Hancock asks to keep personal and social interactions as small as possible.

Approximately 10,000 tests a week have been administered at the Pepsi Center as the demand for COVID-19 testing has increased.
