Gov. Polis won’t impose statewide restrictions, despite rising hospitalizations

DENVER (KDVR) — As COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to rise in Colorado, Gov. Polis is standing his ground when it comes to statewide restrictions.

When asked if he will implement restrictions across Colorado with rising hospitalizations, Polis said Colorado is doing better than other states that have reached hospital capacity for COVID-19 patients.

“Our hospital capacity is not currently in jeopardy,” Polis said. “At this point it’s important that Coloradans show the individual responsibility to keep themselves safe.”

According to the governor, Colorado has 680 confirmed COVID-19 hospitalizations Wednesday — the highest number since mid-May. A majority of hospitalized patients are unvaccinated. Recent data shows that unvaccinated people accounted for 83.3% of hospitalizations in a single week in August.
