DENVER (KDVR) — Broomfield and Jefferson Counties are now recommending masks for almost everyone in public indoor settings. The new recommendations fall in line with new federal guidance that urges indoor masking in places with substantial COVID-19 transmission.
The recommendation applies to everyone, whether vaccinated or not, in Broomfield. Jefferson County’s new recommendations apply to everyone over the age of two.
“Because vaccine uptake has now stalled and cases of COVID-19 are once again increasing rapidly in Jeffco, and with the Delta variant circulating widely, we all must now take this additional step to protect ourselves and our loved ones, including our children who aren’t yet eligible to get vaccinated,” said Dr. Dawn Comstock, Executive Director of Jefferson County Public Health.
“Broomfield has done an outstanding job of getting vaccinated and following public health protections, but new data suggests fully vaccinated people who are infected with the delta variant can transmit the virus to other people” Broomfield Public Health director Jason Vahling said. “The single most important step you can take is to get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect yourself and the most vulnerable among us.”
The City and County of Broomfield and Jefferson County fall in the CDC’s “substantial” zone of transmission that applies to areas with seven-day COVID-19 incidence rates of greater than 50 per 100,000 people.
