CREEDE, Colo. — It should come as no surprise that the air in Creede, Colorado is a bit thinner. After all the town’s elevation is around 9,000 feet above sea level.
But there’s also something else in the air in Creede: love.
For whatever reason, dozens of employees at the town’s famed Creede Repertory Theater have coupled up.
“You’re working so closely together and there’s so much heart in the theater. People love each other and they love what they do,” said Caitlin Wise, an actress.
Wise and her now husband John DiAntonio got hitched in Creede after performing in several shows put on by the theater.
Several years ago the theater’s artistic director said ‘yes’ to the production manager.
“This is my husband Ryan Prince. He’s our production manager and we met here also,” said Jessica Jackson.
Then there’s the theater carpenter who popped the question to the prop girl.
“Finally were able to talk during one of the parties and just went from there. I charmed him!” joked Amanda Relaford, referring to her fiance Kyle Leinneweber.
Relaford and Leinneweber plan to get married on the theater’s stage later this month.
They’re doing exactly what Christy Brandt and John Gary Brown did several decades back.
“What better place to get married than on the set of the show that Christy had the lead in that summer,” Brown said.
Brown and Brandt got married on the stage in the early 1980s.
“I have high hopes for those who have gotten married out here. I think they’re all wonderful couples,” Brandt said.
The list goes on and on. No one’s quite sure how many couples have met through the theater, but it’s somewhere in the dozens.
So if you’re looking for true love, get involved with the Creede Repertory Theater.
