DENVER — Coloradans rallied at the State Capitol on Thursday to encourage lawmakers in Denver and Washington to keep provisions of the Affordable Care Act in place.

“Don’t take our health care away,” erupted on the west steps during a noon rally.

The concern is what will happen to the more than 1 million people in the state on some form of the health care act.

“Health care is a basic human right,” said Reyna Ulibarri, who is on Medicaid through the Affordable Care Act.

Right now there are more questions than answers.

Former GOP House Speaker John Boehner said repeal and replace won’t happen because ”Republicans never ever agree on health care.”

Sen. Cory Gardner said repeal and replace is continuing on schedule. Gardner was if Coloradans on Medicaid like Ulibarri will still be covered.

“I believe we will have a transition in place that will help make sure people who are on medicaid can have the healthcare we think we can deliver,” Gardner said.

Some of the facts in Colorado regarding the exchange include:

  • Twenty percent increase in Affordable Care Act premiums in 2017
  • Two companies, United Health and Humana, pulled out of the exchange
  • A total of 14 counties, mostly on the Western Slope, have only one insurer to choose from on the state exchange
