Club sports at CU facing logo changes they don’t want to make

BOULDER, Colo. — At the University of Colorado, there are about 337 student athletes… but when it comes to club sports, more than 1,500 student athletes take part in sports such as, men’s Lacrosse, Swimming & Diving, Women’s Hockey, Cycling etc.

“We generate most of the money needed for our teams to compete,” said senior crew team member, Jordan Whiddon. “For the University to have us make changes to the logo will devalue the effort and pride we generate for our school.”

Most recent national champions are members of the CU Lacrosse men’s team. But, many of the students wind up paying about $8,000-10,000 to compete and to be forced to change logos on all team gear would add to costs and funds they would need to generate.

Plus, they say, when going to other schools and events around the nation, they would look like we are just not ‘loved’ by the administration or their own school.

University spokesman, Ryan Huff says, “We were not aware of how the students felt, even though we put out an online survey to gather responses, and now that they are showing their displeasure, we are re-evaluating any and all changes.”

Student athletes say they will go to Thursday night’s legislative session at the University Memorial Center at 7 p.m.
