JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A six-acre fire near Highway 285 and South Turkey Creek Road forced some homes to be evacuated on Wednesday afternoon, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.

Residents in 13 to 14 homes on Granzella Road and Rock Ridge Road in Morrison were told to evacuate, the sheriff’s office said. An additional 25 to 30 homes in a half-mile radius were told to prepare to evacuate.

The evacuation point for residents was the West Jefferson Middle School gym, the sheriff’s office said.

Crews contained the fire around 3:15 p.m. No structures were involved in the fire, authorities said. Five fire departments worked to contain the fire.

Northbound Highway 285 was closed in the area as crews battled the fire, according to the Colorado State Patrol. Southbound lanes of the highway remained open.
