FLORENCE, Colo. — Convicted Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been moved to the U.S. Penitentiary in Florence, the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed Thursday.

The U.S. Penitentiary in Florence is a high-level security corrections facility. It is one of four buildings in the federal corrections complex at Florence that includes the Supermax maximum-level security facility.

An official with the Federal Bureau of Prisons could not say whether Tsarnaev would eventually be moved to a supermax facility.

A jury sentenced Tsarnaev to death in May for his role in the 2013 bombing that killed three and left 240 injured. The jury’s sentence was formally imposed by Judge George O’Toole on Wednesday.

In his first public statement since the attacks, Tsarnaev addressed the court and apologized to the victims and survivors before formally receiving the death sentence from the judge.
