GOLDEN, Colo. — Bond was set at $1 million on Thursday for one of the suspects involved in a violent crime spree in Lakewood and Sheridan a day earlier.
Miguel David Sanders Jr. is being held for investigation of attempted murder, kidnapping, bank robbery, armed carjacking, aggravated assault with a weapon, aggravated vehicle theft and assault, according to court records.
Three or four other suspects are still on the run and the Sheridan 2 School District closed Thursday because of the manhunt.
The crime spree began at the First Bank building at West Jewell Avenue and South Kipling Parkway in Lakewood around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, police said, when a group of black male suspects locked employees in a vault before making off with an undisclosed amount of cash in a dark colored Jeep.
Police said the suspects were wearing masks from the movie “Scream,” similar to those used in another Lakewood bank robbery at a US Bank at 1414 Carr St. in late September.
According to Lakewood Police, the suspects discarded the Jeep a few blocks from the bank and a second vehicle was then used, driven to the area of the 3200 block of South Vance Street and then discarded.
The four suspects then left on foot and confronted a male victim in front of his home in the 6800 block of West El Dorado Place. They forcibly took his vehicle, a silver van, at gunpoint and when he refused to accompany them, he was shot at least twice, Lakewood Police say.
The owner of the van was transported to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, according to police.
The suspects abandoned the silver van near Sheridan High School, then confronted a mother and daughter in a vehicle outside a recreation center near the school. They attempted to take their vehicle, but had some difficulty, according to police.
Lakewood Police say the suspects physically assaulted both the mother and daughter, shooting the daughter in the hand, before fleeing on foot. Both victims were transported to hospitals with nonlife-threatening injuries.
Shortly after the encounter with the mother and daughter at the recreation center, one of the suspects was found beneath a bus in a bus barn near the school and arrested.
All suspects are described as black males, two having bald heads and one possibly with hair in corn rows. Clothing descriptions for the suspects included: one suspect wearing a blue hoodie and checkered pants, one wearing a maroon shirt and jeans and one wearing some type of bright orange clothing.
