CENTENNIAL, Colo. — Over two weeks after Claire Davis was shot at Arapahoe High School and over a week since she died from her injuries, the Centennial student has not been forgotten.
On Saturday, several hundred motorcyclists rode in her honor and collected donations on her family’s behalf. The Claire Davis Memorial Ride took bikers from Red & Jerry’s in Sheridan to the high school.
“It’s a sad thing when a child dies before her parents and we just wanted to support the Davis family and have a good time riding and we just love doing this kind of thing,” said one participant.
“It’s a terrible tragedy,” said another rider. “We want the community to know that there are people out there that care, just trying to do whatever we can to get them through this.”
Laurie Montoya, the president of the motorcycle group Bikerdown and one of the event organizers, said riders often help local charities.
“One thing that we hope to get out of this is to let the community know that we bond with you,” she said. “Don’t be afraid of us because we have leather and tattoos… Bikers are probably one of the most generous organizations and group of people that I know.”
More than $4,000 was raised during the ride. Old Chicago Littleton also contributed 10 percent of its food sales to the Davis family on Saturday afternoon.
