GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. — A standoff between SWAT team members and a shoplifting suspect who barricaded himself in a Greenwood Village home ended after nearly 19 hours Thursday morning.

The suspect was taken into custody just before 9 a.m. after the incident began about 2 p.m. Wednesday. The suspect has been identified as Robert Jonathon Seacat, 33. Greenwood Village police would not say if the suspect was injured but said the standoff ended with no injured officers or citizens. Police used explosive devises to gain entry into the home after negotiations failed. They also used a breaching ram to open a hole in the house to remove the suspect, who has not been identified.

Police said the 30-year-old suspect was wanted in a shoplifting incident at a Wal-Mart store on East Hampden Avenue in Aurora. He then fled in a vehicle, which was later found abandoned at the RTD Light Rail station at I-225 and South Dayton Street. The suspect fled on foot towards and was chased into a home in the 4200 block of South Alton Street where he barricaded himself. The Greenwood Village Police Department said a 9-year-old boy saw the suspect in the home and was able to get out unharmed after calling 911 and his mother. SWAT officers negotiated with the armed suspect throughout the day before he cut off negotiations, leading to the standoff.
