AURORA, Colo. — According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, background checks for gun purchases went up 43 percent in the days following the Aurora movie theater shooting.
Bloomberg.com reports that three days after the shooting on Friday, background check requests jumped to 2,887, according to Susan Medina with the CBI. There were 2,012 requests during the same three days the week previous.
The Bloomberg report also reports a jump of 39 percent during the first Friday to Sunday in the month of July.
On Tuesday, House Speaker John Boehner said he agreed with The White House that the Aurora tragedy would not be used to push through new gun legislation.
