DENVER — As images from the theater shooting in Lafayette, Louisiana first flashed across screens in Colorado on Thursday, it brought back a sickening feeling for many of those impacted by the Aurora theater shooting.

“Scenes from the parking lot looking out into the theater, it was just … I just know how they all feel,” said Amee Gharbi. “It`s horrible.”

Amee Gharbi remembers watching similar images three years ago, while she sat in a hospital praying her son Yousef Gharbi would survive a gunshot wound to the head.

Yousef survived the shooting and was on hand last week as the Aurora shooter was found guilty. Amee said her son expressed heartbreak on Friday after hearing about yet another theater shooting. She said he’s glad the Lafayette shooter is dead.

“At least they don`t have to go through a trial,” Gharbi said. “They`re not going to have to re-live this over and over again years later.”

Above all, many of the Aurora victims and their families said there’s one thing the Lafayette victims and their families need right now.

Caren Teves, mother of Aurora theater shooting victim Alex Teves, put it simply, tweeting “Prayers for #Lafayette.”

Marcus Weaver, who was injured in the shooting, told FOX31 Denver, “This is a time when we just need to be praying for the victims. To those who died, may they rest in peace and may the survivors find some peace in the future. We’re there for them, I’m there for them personally, if they need it.”

“All of our hearts and prayers go out to them,” Gharbi said. “They need to know that they`re not alone.”
