DENVER — An astronaut aboard the International Space Station captured one-of-a-kind images of a Colorado wildfire.

Jeff Williams posted photos on Facebook and Twitter of the Hayden Pass Fire on Monday. From space, smoke can be see streaming into the sky.

The fire is burning mostly in the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness in southern Colorado. It has burned more than 12,000 acres. A lightning strike started the fire on Friday. It’s at 0 percent containment.

Williams is commander on Expedition 48, which launched in March. In the social media posts he said the wildfire “looks menacing from space” and told people to “be careful down there.”
