LONGMONT, Colo. — Ashley Doolittle, the Berthoud teenager who was killed last month, will be posthumously crowned queen at the Boulder County Fair, the Longmont Times-Call reports.
Doolittle was selected as lady-in-waiting last year and would have been crowned queen at this year’s fair. The newspaper reported Doolittle will have the title of queen for a year and the queen sash will be placed on her horse during a ceremony at the fair, which begins Friday.
“We’ve been in contact with her mother,” Boulder County Fair board president and royalty coordinator Julia Davis told the newspaper. “The committee talked to royalty programs around the state and decided that we will not crown a queen this year. We’re not taking it away from Ashley — that’s her honor.
“We’ll crown a lady-in-waiting and two princesses. The princess program was Ashley’s idea, and this will be the first year of doing it, so it’ll be called the Ashley Doolittle Princess Program.”
Doolittle’s ex-boyfriend, Tanner Flores, is accused of killing her June 9 and taking her body to a family property near Collbran. Flores, 18, was arrested June 10.
He told Mesa County sheriff’s investigators that he shot Doolittle twice in the head, then took her body across the state because “he (was) upset with her.”

Doolittle had recently ended a one-year relationship with Flores and Flores was distraught over the breakup, according to an arrest affidavit.
Flores is being held without bond on suspicion of first-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping.
