ARVADA, Colo. — The Arvada Police Department spent nearly four hours Friday night working to end a barricade situation inside the lobby of its headquarters building.
Police said the incident ended just before 10 p.m. and the suspect was in custody.
Earlier, a spokeswoman said a man armed with a knife and a gun walked into police headquarters at about 6:15 p.m. She said he “appeared to be suicidal.” She said police did not know who the man was.
He had no hostages and no one had been hurt. The building was evacuated. A SWAT team and a negotiator were working to bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion.
FOX31’s Drew Engelbart reported hearing loud “bangs.” Police said that was a “flash-bang” device designed to try to get him to give up.
Eventually, the suspect came outside and SWAT team members took him into custody without further incident.
There was a large police presence in the area that included the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
Arvada police headquarters is at 8101 Ralston Road. Streets were closed around the building late Friday night.
