U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — An investigation was underway Friday into what happened to an Air Force Academy cadet who died Thursday.

Alexandre Quiros, 21 of Colorado Springs was found with injuries in his dormitory room where he was pronounced dead shortly before 4 p.m.

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations is looking into his death.

Cadet Quiros was a senior majoring in Astronautical Engineering.

He made the dean’s list and commandant’s list several times.

Sources said, Quiros graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School in 2011.

“Our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Cadet Quiros. Yesterday, we lost a member of our Air Force Academy family, and it’s a loss felt across our entire institution,” said Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson, Air Force Academy Superintendent. “Right now, our focus is on providing all possible support to the friends and loved ones of our fallen Airman.”

Quiros’ former English teacher and tennis coach said this came as a complete shock.

Dave Adams, Quiros’ Former Tennis Coach said, “Really smart kid. Sharp young man. A great fit for the air force academy I think. He wanted to improve himself it was clear he wanted to get better at tennis. And worked hard to try to improve himself in that way. And academically he always did his work. You could count on him to keep up with everything.”

The Academy released another statement that said, “We lost a member of our air force academy family, and it’s a loss felt across our entire institution.”

The Academy has not released how Quiros died.
