ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. – A year after Denver began allowing recreational pot sales, Adams County took a big step forward Tuesday by selecting who could begin applying for licenses to operate within their jurisdiction.

More than 1,600 people applied to the lottery system which grants a limited number of applications for marijuana testing, manufacturing, growing, and retail sales.  Through the drawing, which was held at the Adams County Government Center on Tuesday, only ten people were selected.

“Anytime you have 1,600 people apply for ten slots there’s going to be a lot of anticipation and I think we had that here today,” said Jim Siedlecki, the Director of Public Information for Adams County.

Those chosen have until July 31 to submit all paperwork, documentation and state licensing in order to continue in the process. Adams County also selected several alternates for each category who can be chosen if anyone is unable to follow through with their plans.
