BASALT, Colo. — A fourth and final defendant in a 2012 Basalt home invasion was sentenced Wednesday.

24-year-old Pablo Castillo of Parachute received 14 years at the Colorado Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to theft of $20,000 or more and conspiracy to commit second-degree burglary, according to the Summit County District Attorney’s Office.

The home invasion occurred at a Basalt home, a community near Aspen, at about 11:45 a.m. on Nov. 28, 2012.

After the 75-year-old female resident came out of the shower, she was confronted by two men brandishing guns and demanding valuables. The thieves departed her home with cash, jewelry and her cell phone. They threatened to return and kill her if she called police.

The case was investigated by the Basalt Police Department, Eagle County Sheriff’s Office and the Eagle County District Attorney’s Office.

Castillo’s sentencing followed the sentencing of his three co-conspirators.

Sergio Sanchez, 24, of Rifle received 30 years in prison, 25-year-old Michael Hawkins of Parachute received a 24-year prison sentence and Rafael Vega-Sanchez, 18, was sentenced to serve six years in the Youthful Offender System, the DA’s Office said.

While Sanchez and Hawkins entered the home and held the victim at gunpoint, Vega-Sanchez and Castillo stayed in the vehicle as lookouts.

At the sentencing, Castillo apologized to the victim and her family, the DA’s Office said.

This sentencing concluded the case.
