Joana co-hosts Great Day Colorado. She loves featuring the best businesses and business owners Colorado has to offer. Before coming to Great Day Colorado, Joana reported and anchored news in Salt Lake City, San Diego and numerous stations in Denver. Her bilingual capabilities as a South American native have taken her to countries like Mexico and Colombia for reporting and production opportunities.
As an AFAA fitness professional, Joana created the Fitness Friday franchise for Great Day Colorado on Colorado’s Very Own Channel 2. The weekly segments feature cutting edge workouts, local trainers and fitness fashion and products. Joana’s passion for fitness also landed her an opportunity to represent Honda in their active woman campaign. Joana says her favorite fitness job is teaching group fitness at local gyms. She teaches Cycle, Pilates and strength training classes.
Her personal experiences fighting breast cancer in her own family, prompted her to be the first woman to do a mammogram on live television for Good Day Colorado on FOX31 in Denver. As someone who has lost a sister to the disease, she decided to reveal her results live, good or bad, with hopes of inspiring women everywhere to take the fear out of preventive testing.
Joana has called Colorado “home” for the last 16 years. As a busy mother of a 16-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter, she finds that keeping the family active lends to great family time. She has trained her son for multiple kids’ triathlons and teaches her children to read nutrition labels. Getting kids to love fitness is one of her main goals as a fitness professional and mother and former member of the Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness in Colorado.
Her background as a ballet dancer in the Ballet West Academy and NBA cheerleader play a vital role in the way she covers fitness for television and social media.
Make sure to tune in for Fitness Friday’s on Great Day Colorado.
