Cheryl Hwang joined the Channel 2 Great Day Colorado team in May of 2022 as a Reporter & Producer.
Before joining this amazing team, Cheryl worked as the Morning News Producer at KWGN writing for anchors Chris Parente and Katie Orth. Prior to Denver, she worked in Chicago, Kearney-Grand Island-Hastings, Nebraska, and Colorado Springs as a Multimedia Journalist & Producer in both news and lifestyle.
Cheryl loves all parts of storytelling, especially those that push the boundaries of society or topics that allow for us to bring awareness to different cultures through lifestyle and entertainment.
She is also a big advocate for women empowerment, entrepreneurship, representation and positive impacts!
Her favorite part of the job is building relationships with those making an impact in this beautiful community and finding new and unique ideas that should be shared.
An international spirit at heart, Cheryl was born in Chicago but lived half of her childhood in South Korea and is fluent in Korean. She thought about a career in Korean broadcasting before she wound up falling in love with journalism in the States!
Fun fact: Cheryl went to an international school throughout her early-education and gained very strange American-British-Kiwi-Scottish-Australian-Korean accent during this time!
She attended Loyola University Chicago where she received a bachelor’s degree in Communication/ Broadcast Journalism. While there, she was nominated for two Crystal Pillar Awards from the Midwest Chapter of the Emmys.
Outside of the station, you can find Cheryl on her curiosity podcast “Clueless and Curious”, singing her heart out, learning the guitar, socializing, exploring Colorado, and training to run her first half marathon! She also has two cats, Primrose & Dixie, (even though she’s allergic to them) and loves them with all her heart.
