ARVADA, Colo. — A man was shot and killed by at least one Arvada Police Department officer Wednesday night.

The shooting occurred near West 56th Avenue and Marshall Street.

Authorities said they received a call about a disturbance around 10 p.m. that was related to a domestic situation.

Police say they tried to negotiate with 40-year-old Jon Phillip Bryant for some time.

According to APD, Bryant was armed with a pipe and was threatening “suicide by cop.”

Bryant had also allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, according to police.

APD says officers tried to subdue Bryant with non-lethal methods, including 40 mm baton rounds and a Taser.

“Their attempts had no effect on the suspect,” police said.

Bryant eventually got a knife and ran toward police, APD said. Five officers then fired their weapons, killing Bryant.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Bryant had previous interactions with police, including 30 with APD.

APD says officers did not have body-worn cameras but there were multiple eye witnesses.

The Jefferson County Regional Critical Incident Response Team is investigating.
