EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. — A 58-year-old Nevada man is dead after an officer-involved shooting at a Walgreens in Avon Thursday night.
The incident occurred at the Walgreens at 15 Sun Rd. The store is located near the Interstate 70’s Avon Road exit.
A Colorado State Patrol trooper tried to get a U-Haul truck to pull over on I-70 for a traffic stop around 8 p.m. and it pulled into the Walgreens parking lot, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
The man got out of the vehicle with a firearm, according to CBI.
CBI says it believes law enforcement officers attempted to negotiate with the man, “in addition to the use of less-lethal techniques being deployed.”
Shots were fired and the man was hit, CBI says. He was taken to Vail Health hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The man’s name is not being released by officials until his family has been notified.
No officers were injured in the incident.
CBI and the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office were requested to investigate. No further information has been released.
