BRIGHTON, Colo. — One person was killed in a five-vehicle crash that closed both directions of Interstate 76 in Adams County for nearly five hours on Wednesday, the Colorado State Patrol said.

The crash happened just after 3 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 76 east of Sable Boulevard, south of Brighton. The interstate was closed between Highway 85 and E-470.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene and three others were taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, Brighton Fire Rescue said.

The interstate reopened just before 9 p.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
