LOVELAND, Colo. — A homicide investigation turned deadly Monday night during a shootout between a woman and police.
According to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, about 7:15 p.m., a Loveland Police Department officer responded to a home in the 3300 block of Cuchara Court on a welfare check following a report of a possible homicide.
The officer found a dead man inside the home’s garage.
According to the sheriff’s office, the officer backed out of the garage and LPD SWAT members responded to ensure no other victims were inside the home.
About 8:30 p.m., SWAT members entered the home and found a woman — who was a suspect in the case — armed with a gun.
“The suspect was struck during an exchange of gunfire and pronounced deceased at the scene,” the sheriff’s office said.
Officers did not find anyone else inside the home.
An officer was also injured during the exchange of gunfire. He was treated and cleared by paramedics, according to police.
The Eighth Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting. As of Tuesday afternoon, investigators were still processing the crime scene.
The sheriff’s office said more details will be released in the coming days.
