CONUNDRUM HOT SPRINGS, Colo. — On Thursday, crews will begin the task of ridding a deserted mountain cabin of several frozen cow carcasses.

The cows were discovered near Conundrum Hot Springs in March by two Air Force Academy cadets who were looking for a place to stay overnight.

Removing the animals may prove to be difficult because they are on land that is considered wilderness, making it illegal to use motorized vehicles to get rid of the carcasses.

The forest service says the animals will be cut up and the remains scattered near the Conundrum Trail.

Rangers are asking hikers to stay away from this area for the next month.
