COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. —  A Colorado Springs teen pulled from a burning car Tuesday night says the accident was caused by moths.

At approximately 8:37 p.m., officers responded to the 7800 block of Lexington Dr. following a report of a car that was on fire and leaking gas.

Authorities say an 18-year-old girl was driving northbound when she was distracted by Miller Moths. She lost control of the car, veered off the right side of the road and hit a tree, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The impact of the crash caused a fuel line to rupture and a ‘significant amount’ of fuel poured from the car.

Witnesses were able to pull the girl out through an open door before the car engulfed in flames.

The teen sustained minor injuries.

Police say drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the crash.
