BRIGHTON, Colo. — Law enforcement officers searched for a suspect in Weld County north of Brighton following a police pursuit Friday night.

The Brighton Police Department said there was a “large police presence” on Weld County Road 27 between Weld County Roads 2 and 4.

According to authorities at the scene, the incident began as a high-speed chase in Lochbuie. It ended near Brighton when the suspect ran away from their vehicle.

The suspect is wanted for a domestic violence offense, according to BPD.

During the pursuit, the suspect reportedly rammed a patrol vehicle.

BPD asked people to avoid the area.

About 9:30 p.m., police said the suspect had not been located, but officers were “breaking down the perimeter.”

Roberto Chavez Jr. says he lives next door to where the domestic dispute started and witnessed the police confrontation before the chase

“It’s kind of sad to see something like that happened, you see that everywhere else—even the movies.  But you never think you’ll be so close to something that drastic,” Chavez said.

“All of a sudden, you see a guy run across our front sidewalk.  He ran around, and you see police chasing him.”

Trevor Sayler lives in Fort Lupton, witnessed the high-speed chase

“We heard him fly by—just fast.  I jumped up and looked out and saw the two cop cars right behind him.”

“It’s kind of nerve-racking to think that happened at all, but then you think ‘how’d he get away.’”
