ASPEN, Colo. — As of 8 p.m. Saturday, Castle Creek Road in Aspen is open after emergency clearing efforts.

Avalanche risk remains a threat in the high country. Outage repairs will resume on Sunday Morning on Conundrum Road.

During the emergency efforts, a private residence sustained damage from the original avalanche. According to a report from Pitkin County Sherriff, snow was up to the second floor of the home and windows appear to have been damaged.

On Saturday morning, an avalanche forced the closure of a road near Aspen. The Pitkin County Sheriff’s office said around 5:30 a.m. that an avalanche had closed Castle Creek Road in both directions at mile marker 4 (South Hayden Road).

Authorities said no one was injured and no vehicles were trapped in the slide.

The sheriff’s office said that it would be setting off avalanche mitigation charges from helicopters and warned people to expect loud noises. It urged drivers not to try to pass over the slide path.

County personnel are working on clearing the slide.

It is unknown when the road will reopen.

At least 40 people are affected by the road closure. Some of them have lost power and telephone service. The Pitkin County Regional Emergency Dispatch Center said residents in the Conundrum area may not have power restored until Sunday at the earliest.
