PUEBLO, Colo. — Colorado authorities say a woman has been arrested on suspicion of child abuse following her 10-week-old son’s death.

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office says Jannie Gatlin was arrested at home Friday after police said an autopsy found the infant died of extreme malnourishment.

Gatlin, who is 24, is being held in the Pueblo County Jail. Online records do not indicate if she has an attorney to comment on the arrest.

Police began investigating after responding to a report of a suspicious death at a local emergency room on Dec. 29.

According to the sheriff’s office, emergency room doctors told deputies the boy was “unresponsive and appeared severely emaciated and dehydrated” when Gatlin brought him in around noon.

Doctors told the deputies that they could not resuscitate the child.
