WESTMINSTER, Colo. — A burglary suspect was shot by a police officer Tuesday afternoon, the Westminster Police Department said.

Officers responded to a burglary near the area of Harlan Street and 92nd Avenue.

Authorities said one female suspect tried running from the scene when confronted while a male suspect fled in a stolen vehicle.

Officers were able to chase and arrest the female.

The male suspect in the vehicle blew through a red light as he attempted to escape and then intentionally swerved into an officer on a motorcycle who was trying to stop the car, police said.

The officer then fired and wounded the man, who was taken to a hospital.

There is no word on the seriousness of the suspect’s injuries.

Both directions of 92nd Avenue were closed between Sheridan Boulevard and Harlan Street and reopened about 7 p.m.

The identities of the suspects have not been released.
