DENVER — State Rep. Lori Saine was arrested at Denver International Airport on Tuesday on suspicion of having a gun, the Denver Police Department said.

Saine, a Weld County Republican, is being held for investigation of introducing a firearm into a transportation facility, police said.

That’s a sixth-degree felony with sentencing guidelines of up to a 18 months in prison and fines of up to $100,000.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. The case will be presented to the Denver District Attorney’s Office to consider possible charges.

Saine, the House Republican Caucus chair, has advocated for gun rights and co-sponsored a 2017 bill to repeal some restrictions on ammunition magazines.

She did not return a phone call and an email seeking comment.

Firearms are allowed on planes if they are properly stored in checked luggage.

More than 90 guns were seized at Denver International Airport in 2016.
