DENVER — A temperature of zero degrees with a wind speed of just 15 mph creates a wind chill temperature of minus-19 degrees. Frostbite can occur in just 30 minutes.
Mittens, thermal underwear and common sense will keep you warm. But for pets, they depend on owners’ common sense too.

Dogs and cats are at more risk for frostbite. Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald from Alameda East Veterinarian Hospital in Denver said bring pets inside when temperatures get to 20 degrees or lower.
Fitzgerald said his hospital sees four or five cases of animal frostbite every cold snap. He says common sense is the key.
